Testimonial of a caretaker of a colony in South Delhi

“Our dog management committee, I think, is doing a commendable job, because in the last 3-4 years, we have been able to control the dog population through a program of sterilising the dogs, vaccinating them, and deworming them. We are doing our level best to avoid human-animal conflict as much as possible. The team is trying to educate people by explaining to them the dos and don’ts that are required for compatible coexistence of both dogs and humans. Our goal is to educate as many people as possible, especially the youth on how to not get into a conflict with the animals. Guards have been trained and are in the process of being trained further, to behave in a certain way with the dogs and not use sticks and coerce force or pelt stones at them. Dogs are being looked after well and in case of an emergency, there is a group of volunteers that are tending to the medical requirements of the animals.”
